Medical Marijuana – A Growing Field

Even with no pun intended it is hard to ignore the thriving business environment surrounding the production and sale of medical marijuana. With MMJ now legalized in 15 states and the District of Columbia, the market is expanding vigorously.

Treating a Variety of Ailments

THC, the active ingredient in marijuana has been shown to effectively treat a number of conditions. It can reduce nausea, insomnia, neurogenic pain and movement disorders and the symptoms of glaucoma. It may be useful in controlling the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, migraines and fibromyalgia. Recent studies have indicated that THC prevents the formation of deposits of plaques associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Of course more research is essential in determining which conditions medical marijuana can help, but even this short list is encouraging.

Not Just Smoking

Medical marijuana opponents object strongly to the most common method of ingestion: smoking. However, there are many safer ways to ingest marijuana. Marijuana can be inhaled in a vaporized form and added to food after being processed into hemp oil. Both methods bypass the potential risks involved in any form of smoking.

Who Can Grow It?

One of the challenges of getting medical marijuana is figuring out who is allowed to grow it, and how much they can grow. The states which have legalized marijuana for medical use have implemented standards for whether and how much marijuana an individual is allowed to grow or possess. Things are a bit more complicated for dispensaries.

California allows patients and caregivers to form cooperatives to grow the plants, but much of the product which reaches the market is grown on small "farms" which still operate outside the law.

Recently a large store specializing in information and supplies opened in Sacramento, CA. The store doesn't sell any marijuana, nor any plants. There are some plants on display but they are owned by licensed individuals and will be removed before they bud.

Licensed Dispensaries

Opening a medical marijuana dispensary involves a bit of work. In each of the states where the sale of medical marijuana is legalized the requirements are a bit different. Businesses must apply for a license and provide proof that the storefront is either owned by the business or that the leaser has approved the business. Some states require a safety plan to be drawn up, or request tax documents and so forth.

One of the biggest challenges facing these legal businesses is obtaining the full range of business services, such as merchant accounts for processing credit card sales or bank accounts, since marijuana is only legal on the state level, not at the federal level.

Perhaps the strongest argument that the government will respond to is the potential tax base that medical marijuana will generate. In tough economic times it is hard to turn away any source of much needed income.

Natural Herbal Remedies For Arthritis – Understanding How to Get Rid of Arthritis

Natural Herbal Remedies for Arthritis That Really Work; Understand how to get rid of Arthritis by following these natural herbal remedies for Arthritis.

Swedish Bitters is recommended for rheumatism.

Devil’s Claw (Harpago) works by detoxifying the body and strengthens the immune system. It may cause nausea in certain people, depending on how toxic the body is. Allow 4 to 6 weeks of taking devil’s claw before assessing its effect. Boil ½ to 1 teaspoon of root in a cup of pure water for 15 minutes and drink 3 times a day. It is anti-inflammatory and is especially helpful for osteoarthritis.

Comfrey tea should be taken daily. Comfrey grows very easily in the garden and it would be advisable to have several plants of it. It multiplies quickly in moist soil. The ancient name for comfrey was bone knit and it is a wonderful tissue healer. For arthritic pain dip a large comfrey leaf in hot water to soften it and wrap around the afflicted area. Comfrey tea is made with a ¼ cup of shredded herb (taken from a fully grown leaf only) and filling the cup with boiling water. When cooled a little, strain and drink. Honey or barley malt may be used to sweeten.

Evening Primrose seeds are used for degenerative diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and MS.

Salmon oil is highly beneficial as it provides Essential Fatty Acids (omega 3) to help the body produce natural anti-inflammatory chemicals. Purslane (Portulacaceae), also known as claytonia, miner’s lettuce or pigweed, is another source of omega 3. Add it to a salad. The full beneficial effect takes about 3 to 6 months, so persevere.

Hemp seed oil contains omega 3, 6 and 9 oils and is high in GLA. These properties are rarely found in balance in any one plant, making hemp seed oil an excellent choice for arthritics.

To prevent the body drawing calcium from the bones and teeth to counteract the high acid levels in the blood (almost always the case with rheumatics), make a tea of edible celery seeds and/or dandelion root. Boil pure water and wait 30 seconds before pouring over 1 teaspoonful of herbs in a cup. Allow to stand for 10 minutes before drinking.

For pain relief make tea of valerian as above, or of chickweed (which grows wild in places) using 2 teaspoons of dried herb. Allow to stand for only 5 minutes. Fresh chickweed can be used in salad.

Feverfew is rather unpalatable as a tea but, three times per day, eat a chopped up leaf masked in a sandwich. It may take up to 6 months to bring results, but it has brought relief not only to arthritics but to migraine sufferers as well. Start now and persevere. Do not use during pregnancy.

To aid circulation in the affected area, make tea of cayenne pepper and use in a compress.

A 1/4 teaspoonful of ground ginger in a cup of boiled water first thing every morning will begin to pay off in about 3 weeks. This is a cure used in Chinese medicine. Ginger discourages the white blood cells forming around the joint, consequently there is a marked reduction of pain.

A Review on the Body Shop Hemp Face Protector

All of us want to have a healthy younger looking skin. Before I say good night I use facial cleanser and before I expose myself to the sun I use face protector, of course there are also other cosmetics like make up, to make my face more appealing. Every weekend I visit one of my favorite beauty stores here in makati Philippines located at Glorietta level II. I just visit the store to know if there are new products. I used this product for quite some time now from body shop, it is Hemp face protector and I think it does well on me.

Certainly every one desires to have a healthy skin, and this is the reason why we use moisturizer to avoid flaky and dry skin can’t forget the first day when I used Hemp face protector, my face feel bulky and uneasy, I thought I never like it. Until finally one staff from body shop said, it should be applied in small amount to make it appear natural and to get rid of heavy feel.

Hemp face protector provides a nice feeling during cold days. It makes my face radiant on rainy days and maybe on winter days in some parts of the country, but using them on summer days does not gave me that same feeling, but of course I also use it to take away oil on my face but I apply thinly.

Hemp face protector by body shop is cost effective because you won’t have to apply it lavishly on your face, just a little size of a pea can do, and I guess this is an undisclosed learning when applying something to my face. I am so grateful about body shop for creating hemp face protector; its base formula is cocoa butter and hemp seed. I also love the scent; it is so mild yet captivating.

Today I am not anxious anymore about flaky and dry face. My appearance looks revitalize and my friends observe it. I feel wonderful and of course happy. My elbow is also prone to roughness; I pat it there too to get away roughness and it actually did well.

Marijuana in Ancient China

Marijuana has a rich history. California’s legalization of medical marijuana through Proposition 215, and the public debate surrounding it, has brought a renewed interest in the cannabis sativa plant from which marijuana is harvested. The growing public acceptance of medicinal marijuana is helping to dispel myths about cannabis.

Only recently has marijuana been treated like a dangerous drug. Ancient cultures appreciated the many practical and medicinal uses of cannabis. As a food, as a fiber, and as a medicinal preparation, cannabis has a fascinating history.

The history of marijuana use goes back more than ten thousand years to where it appears to have originated: in China. Hemp rope imprints on broken pottery dated at about 10,000 B.C. show one of the earliest known uses of the plant. Cannabis was widely grown and cultivated in ancient China.

The oldest knows Neolithic culture in China made clothing, fishing nets, and ropes from the hemp fibers separated from the stems of Cannabis plants. The fibers could be spun into yarn or woven into cloth. Hemp fibers were used beginning in the second or first century B.C. to make the first paper, which was very sturdy and durable.

Cannabis seeds were counted as one of the “five grains” of ancient China, along with barley, rice, wheat, and soybeans. Marijuana seeds were roasted or used to make meal. Cannabis seeds could also be cooked in porridge. These marijuana seeds remained an important part of the Chinese diet until they were replaced with higher quality grains in the 10th Century.

The ancient Chinese people learned to press marijuana seeds to obtain the oil, which could be used for cooking, lamps, or lubrication. The leftover cannabis residue provided feed for domestic animals.

Medicinal marijuana was also used in ancient China. China’s oldest known pharmacological work described marijuana preparations to treat conditions from constipation to malaria. Marijuana treatments included grinding the roots into a paste for treating pain. Chinese surgeon Hua To even used the cannabis plant for surgical anesthesia during the second century.

The earliest records of the psychoactive effects of marijuana are also found in China, dating back to around 2000 B.C. This document, Materia Medica Sutra, notes that the cannabis seed “if taken in excess” will allow the user to see spirits. “If taken over a long-term, it makes one communicate with spirits and lightens one’s body.” Later writers, such as 5th Century Chinese physician T’ao Hung Ching, believed that the hallucinatory effects of cannabis, combined with ginseng, would allow users to see into the future.

California marijuana laws are helping to restore cannabis to its rightful place as a useful and medicinally valuable plant.
